Ancillary Work: Starting The Editing

Today in class I finally started editing on Photoshop my final ancillary product, while working on it I realised how very different the outcome is starting to look compared to my mock up, however the layout is still the same. In class i was finding i was struggling to decide how i should position the picture of the artist:

After spending an hour and a half cropping and filtering and rotating I soon got too frustrated and deleted everything and decided to work on it at home.

This resulted me to change my whole planning all over again and even change my picture and sketch a whole new plan for my background. My original idea of using gradient just did not seem to fit with the genre.
This is the final figure I had eventually decided to stick to as  it was the one that satisfies me the most. So finally so far,I have finished editing the artist, however I will need to fit it into the template and stick on my chosen background layer which will remain white with an effect.

Photoshoot: Choosing the photos

As a group, we all decided together we wanted our artist to be dressed in a dark top which suits our plans for our final digipak album covers. We took around 50 more pictures, but I specifically selected this selection as I could not decide which two pictures to use for my album cover. Another reason why I am finding it more difficult to decide which one to choose is because I am not sure whether I would want her to be looking directly into the camera or to be looking away.

I'm not a very good artist but i tried my best in trhing to make my ideas clear on how i would roughly want my album design to come out. So far this is how i owuld like my designs to come out however it may change a bit later once i think of more better ideas. But so far this is what i have...

Mock-up preparation for Digipak

I researched some singers and mentioned the specific genres which are the same as Cher Lioyds, these singers that I searched have album covers designed perfectly for there genres.
After observing them carefully I personally find Jessie J's one most fitting and appropriate.

Photoshop Activity: Editing album covers

This lesson has actually really benefited me, we took time in this two hour session to learn how to use each aspect in the editing bar using the programme photo-shop. Previously, I have never used photo-shop before and I happened to be the only one in class who had never used it even once before.
However, after Ben showed us a quick ten minute tutorial, everything was much more clearer, about 50% more.
But after given a task to edit an album cover which needed a complete transformation, I used photo shop to edit it the which was the first time for me, and I must admit, it wasn't easy as Ben made it out to be but not as hard as I've always thought it would be, so Rebecca suggested I start attending workshops during lunch times to get one to one help and improve in using photo-shop more.

Researching Ancillary Products: 1st Draft Mistakes

I designed this digipak before we had started ancillary production section of the coursework.

We can spot numerous obvious mistakes and my obvious lack of knowledge on the correct  design and layouts:

1)The photos quality needs to be much more clear

2) I must use the correct template with equal measurements on all sides

3) Use two clear fonts which fits the genre - also a big mistake I made on this digipak was placing the artists name at the bottom of the front cover and putting the albums name at the top which should be the opposite.

4) I have to remember to include the copyright information, website and artist website alongside the bar-code and company logo.

5)The title of the album and artist name blends in with the background too much.
